As a teacher, some of the most bittersweet moments are when I watch my students graduate and become my former students. I'm proud of them for their achievement, remembering them as new students when they knew they wanted to learn computer science but were unsure of themselves, their future, and generally everything. At the same time, I feel like a parent losing a child to the world. Even after eight years of teaching college I don't think a graduation has passed without me getting at least a slightly damp eye. At the same time, the feelings of separation are offset by the fact that a brand new batch of new students are coming in who need me just as much as the old ones did, even if they don't realize it yet. I've lost touch with so many of my former students and I really regret that. I don't have many photographs of people right now, but I'm posting the ones I do have on this page. If you're a former student of mine and you wish, I'll post any updated information you give me along with your picture. Above all, though, stay in touch. I like knowing how everyone's doing.
